On Saturday, June 13, 2026, the First Lady of Côte d’Ivoire, Dominique Ouattara, launched the “Zero Tolerance” national commitment campaign against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) at the Sofitel Abidjan Hôtel Ivoire. This major gathering, held under the high patronage of the First Lady, was attended by Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé, President of the National Assembly Patrick Achi, several members of the government, as well as the Ministers of Women’s Affairs from the Central African Republic, Guinea-Bissau, and Sierra Leone, along with numerous other dignitaries.
“Violence against women and girls is no longer acceptable in our country,” stated Dominique Ouattara. For her, such violence constitutes “a serious violation of human rights, a direct obstacle to our sisters’ autonomy, and an outrage to the full development of our nation.”
Committed for over twenty-eight years to child protection and women’s well-being, the wife of the President of the Republic, Alassane Ouattara, called for a collective commitment that must translate into concrete and lasting actions because, in her words, “words are not enough.”
Dominique Ouattara congratulated the Minister of Women, Family, and Children, whose actions, in close collaboration with the Children of Africa Foundation, have helped shift mindsets and achieve progress in the fight against GBV.
According to Minister Nassénéba Touré, Côte d’Ivoire has chosen a society that collectively and solemnly decides to no longer accept Gender-Based Violence as an inevitability.
“It is this conviction that has allowed Côte d’Ivoire to make the protection of women, children, and families a national priority,” she stated, adding that the country has “progressively built a legal, institutional, and operational framework that now serves as a reference in our sub-region.”
Furthermore, 102 multisectoral platforms for combating Gender-Based Violence have been deployed across the country, ensuring immediate and professional care for victims.
“We, representatives of the Ivorian Nation in all its diversity, gathered this Saturday, June 13, 2026, in Abidjan, proclaim an absolute, unequivocal, and zero tolerance for Gender-Based Violence throughout the national territory,” affirmed the President of the National Council for Human Rights of Côte d’Ivoire (CNDH-CI), Dr. Christian Adjélou, during the National Declaration of Commitment Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
